Buweekula clinches maiden Airtel Masaza Cup title with thrilling final victory over Ssingo

Buweekula has emerged as the champion of the Airtel Masaza Cup after a nail-biting 1-0 victory over two-time champions Ssingo in the final.

The Felix Ssekabuuza-coached side relied on a first-half goal from Alex Taremwa to claim their maiden title in a thrilling match attended by His Majesty Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II.

Taremwa’s long-range shot in the 16th minute proved to be the difference-maker as Buweekula held on to secure their first-ever Masaza Cup title.

Despite Ssingo’s best efforts, they were unable to find an equalizer, with Ismail Rwamitala’s header from a Derrick Kato corner going inches wide in the 24th minute.

The win marks a historic moment for Buweekula, who had previously lost two Masaza Cup finals in 2012 and 2021.

The team was overjoyed as they lifted the trophy, ending their wait for a Masaza Cup title.

Buweekula’s Jimmy Kalema was named the top scorer with seven goals and also received the Most Valuable Player award.

Meanwhile, Joel Byamukama of Ssingo was awarded the best goalkeeper trophy for his impressive performance in the tournament.

The 2025 Masaza Cup final was the first to be held at Nakivubo in 12 years, and Buweekula’s victory adds a new chapter to the tournament’s history.

With this win, Buweekula joins an elite list of Masaza Cup winners, including Gomba, Buddu, Ssingo, Bulemeezi, and others.
