Bugema University Sends Strong Contingent to 2025 AUUS Games
A contingent of 65 student-athletes and 16 officials has been flagged off to Uganda Christian University (UCU), Mukono, to represent Bugema University in the 20th edition of the Association of Uganda University Sports Association (AUUS) 2025 Games.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, University Vice Chancellor Prof. Masiko Kafeero urged the athletes to uphold the values and respect of the Bugema University badge.
“Go out there and shine. Keep the standards high but with a high degree of discipline and respect because we represent God.
The world is corrupt but always stick to our principles and moral values. We want to win but winning with total generosity and honesty,” he said.
The team will compete in six sports disciplines, including football, netball, woodball, athletics, Scrabble, and volleyball.
Dean of Students Mrs. Specioza Nyanzi expressed gratitude to parents and supporters, acknowledging the financial and moral support that has enabled the team to participate.
“It’s again another time for us. It’s a tough and straining process financially to be here.
Thank you for being parents to these young Ugandans to pursue a future via their talents.
The financial and moral support is not taken for granted,” she said.
Mrs. Nyanzi also cautioned student-athletes to stay disciplined and calm, even in the face of corruption and cheating. “Stay disciplined and calm even when you are cheated. These games are full of corrupt officials but remember we have a name to keep.”
Bugema University finished 5th in the previous edition and will be looking to improve their performance this year.
The 2025 AUUS Games will run from December 18 to 23 at Uganda Christian University in Mukono.
