Boxing is back: Namutebi, Japyem James, Kugonza Ochan Boxed to Gold in Abuja
With four (4) Gold and two (2) Silver medals at the 2nd Africa Military Games Boxing Tournament in Abuja, Nigeria, one can definitely confirm that Uganda Boxing is back to winning ways.
The most exciting puncher was the big-hitting Ugandan female boxer Erina Namutebi who finally won her first gold medal in her career.
A product of Boxing Champions League, the top Uganda’s female boxers, Private Erina Namutebi, 32-year-old Uganda Peoples Defence Forces soldier has twice missed the coveted medal.
However, the female beast minted gold for the first time in the just concluded Africa Military Boxing tournament in Abuja, Nigeria.
“It’s such a good feeling, this one has opened the way for more gold medals,” as quoted by Nenez news services.
Namutebi won silvers at the 2023 Africa Championships in Yaounde, Cameroon and in this year’s inaugural Mandela African Boxing Cup in Durban.
The big-hitting Ugandan boxer (Namutebi), joined UPDF in 2021 and made her international debut in Yaounde.
In total, Uganda won four gold and two silvers in Abuja.
The other gold medallists are light-flyweight Ochan Geoffrey, featherweight Joyce Kugonza and light-welterweight Innocent Amoko.
The two silver medals were won by Bantamweight Japyem James and cruiserweight Jamidali Adam won the two silver medals.
