AUUS Games Rugby 7s gets off to a thrilling start

The 2025 Association of Uganda University Sports (AUUS) Games kicked off with a bang at Uganda Christian University (UCU), as University Rugby 7s teams clashed in a series of intense matches.

Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) set the tone, pushing eventual winners Kampala International University (KIU) to the limit in a pulsating contest, before KIU narrowly escaped with a 19-17 victory.

Defending champions Victoria University made a strong statement, launching their title defence with a commanding 24-0 shutout of Makerere University.

The champions’ clinical execution and defensive solidity sent a clear warning to their rivals, announcing their intentions to retain the top spot.

Hosts Uganda Christian University also enjoyed a positive start, grinding out a hard-fought 17-14 win over Kyambogo University in a bruising and tactical encounter.

The home team’s discipline and composure under pressure earned them a well-deserved victory in front of their home crowd.

The Rugby 7s competition has ignited the AUUS Games, with high-tempo and uncompromising battles setting the stage for an enthralling tournament.

As action continues at UCU, teams will be looking to build on their momentum and claim national bragging rights.
