
AUUS ELECTIONS: Inside George Wagoogo’s Presidential Bid and Manifesto
Kyambogo University’s esteemed lecturer and sports enthusiast, George Wagoogo, has thrown his hat into the ring, announcing his candidacy for the presidency of the Association of Uganda University Sports (AUUS) in the forthcoming elections.
The AUUS Elective Assembly, scheduled for September 26, 2025, at Uganda Christian University (UCU) in Mukono, will usher in new leadership, and Wagoogo aims to replace Peninah Aligaweesa Kabenge, who has held the position for two decades.
Wagoogo’s Vision and Qualifications
With a Master’s Degree in Sports Administration from the Russian International Olympic University, a Bachelor of Arts with Education degree from Kyambogo University, and a Post Graduate Certificate in International Sports Event Management from the University of Paris-Sud, Wagoogo brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the table.
His extensive background in sports management includes serving as Administrative Officer and Sports Development Manager for the Kampala Kids League, Sports Head of Capacity Building with the Uganda Olympic Committee, and volunteer roles with the National Council of Sports and Uganda Football Players Association.
Wagoogo’s manifesto is built around four core values:
– Inclusivity: Promoting accessible sports programs for students from diverse backgrounds, abilities, and interests, with a focus on disability sports to foster inclusion and fairness.

Wagoogo’s presidency bid is centered around several key initiatives:
– Revitalization of University Sports Leagues: Enhancing and expanding inter-university sports leagues to facilitate talent identification and development.
– Support for Grassroots Initiatives: Promoting grassroots sports programs in collaboration with universities and local communities.
– Enhanced Training and Development Opportunities: Establishing partnerships with experienced coaches and sports professionals to improve skill levels.
– Health and Wellness Programs: Launching initiatives focusing on physical and mental health, fitness camps, and nutritional workshops.
