Uganda’s sporting excellence was once again celebrated at the Fortebet Real Stars Sports Monthly Awards, with standout performers across multiple disciplines recognized for their exceptional March displays.

Rally driver Hassan Alwi emerged as one of the headline acts after clinching the top motorsport accolade.

Fresh from victory in the opening round of the KCB National Rally Championship, Alwi outpaced stiff competition from Oscar Ntambi and Moses Lumala.

Ntambi later triumphed in the Africa Rally Championship 2 category, while Lumala secured second place at the NRC opener in Mbale.

Speaking after receiving his award at Nanjing Restaurant, Alwi expressed both gratitude and renewed ambition.

He noted that the recognition serves as motivation to continue flying Uganda’s flag higher on the regional and continental stage.

“It has been a great surprise to be recognized. Thanks to Fortebet, we are very honoured to be chosen. We want to continue raising the Ugandan flag, and this is a kind of motivation,” Alwi said, as he celebrated alongside his co-driver.

In athletics, long-distance star Jacob Kiplimo reinforced his dominance by securing yet another monthly award.

His remarkable performance at the World Half Marathon in Lisbon proved decisive, where he set a new world record of 57:20 on March 8.

Kiplimo edged compatriots Sarah Chelangat and Abbey Chelangat, marking his third Real Stars athletics accolade in just six months.

The boxing category saw David Ssemujju Kavuma take top honours following a successful defence of his WBO Asian Pacific and Japanese National welterweight titles.

He finished ahead of Farahat Manirola, who made history as the first Ugandan to win a professional bout on Russian soil, and Saiya Nsubuga, the recent Intermediate Boxing Championship standout.

Meanwhile, women footballers dominated their category in emphatic fashion.

Maureen Kizza of Uganda Martyrs Lubaga led the pack, finishing ahead of Kenyan forward Marion Serenga, who features for St. Noa Girls, and Jovia Nakagolo of Kawempe Muslim Ladies.

The ceremony drew attendance from key stakeholders, including sponsors Fortebet and Jude Colour Solutions, alongside athletes and representatives who received accolades on behalf of absent winners—further underlining the growing prestige of the monthly awards in Uganda’s sporting calendar.
