Ahimbisibwe’s double fires KCCA to victory as title chase intensifies
Ivan Ahimbisibwe delivered a masterclass on Monday evening, striking twice to propel Kampala Capital City Authority FC to a commanding 2-0 triumph over Buhimba Saints FC at Royals Park, Butema.
The clinical forward found the net in either half, underlining his predatory instincts and extending his season tally to nine goals.
That feat moves him level at the summit of the scoring charts with Ambrose Kigozi of Entebbe FC, further burnishing his reputation as one of the league’s most lethal finishers.
KCCA’s victory lifts the Citizens to third place on 36 points, just two adrift of table-toppers Vipers SC, sharpening the contours of an increasingly compelling title race.
Attention now shifts to Friday’s home fixture against Police FC, where momentum will again be at stake.
The breakthrough arrived moments before the interval. A sweeping long ball from Joel Sserunjogi located Saidi Mayanja, whose intelligent layoff invited Ahimbisibwe to fire home from close range.
It was a move of precision and poise, emblematic of KCCA’s attacking fluency.
Head coach Brian Ssenyondo had made a solitary adjustment to the side that featured in the Uganda Cup against Mbarara City FC, reinstating Herbert Achayi from injury in place of Umar Lutalo.
The tactical tweak paid dividends as KCCA maintained control for large spells.
After the restart, the visitors refreshed their ranks. New signing Kennedy Muselero was handed his debut, replacing Shafik Kwikiriza, while Rogers Mugisha came on for Mayanja.
Further changes saw Bright Anukani and Alex Yiga introduced for Lazaro Muhindo and Ashraf Mugume respectively, ensuring energy and composure in the closing stages.
Any lingering doubt was extinguished in the 87th minute. Ahimbisibwe, alive to opportunity once more, struck his second of the night to seal the result and cap a performance of authority and assurance.
