The stage is set for a thrilling showdown as the 2026 Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) Elite Games bring together, for the first time, all the country’s secondary schools sports powerhouses in one electrifying tournament.

Due to run from January 26 to February 1 at Janan Secondary School in Bombo, this year’s edition promises fierce competition across football, basketball, netball and volleyball, with every traditional giant confirming participation.

Headlining the tournament is St. Mary’s Boarding Secondary School-Kitende, whose return adds significant weight to the competition.

The Entebbe Road giants are back after a three-year absence, having last featured in the 2019, 2020 and 2022 editions.

Kitende will compete in football, basketball and netball — disciplines where they have historically stamped their authority both nationally and on the continental stage.

Their presence alone raises the stakes, but they will not have it easy.

Traditional rivals Buddo Secondary School have confirmed entries in basketball, netball and football, ensuring renewed battles in multiple disciplines.

Buddo’s pedigree in school sports makes them one of the tournament’s most formidable contenders.

Equally dangerous is Standard HighSchool-Zzana, popularly known as STAHIZA, which will field football teams for both boys and girls, alongside boys’ volleyball. Their balanced squad adds depth to an already competitive field.

Bukedea Comprehensive School continues to underline its growing reputation as a sports powerhouse, presenting volleyball teams for both boys and girls, as well as girls’ football.

Their steady rise in national school competitions makes them a serious threat.

Amus College School will bring football teams for both boys and girls, in addition to basketball, further thickening the contest in two of the tournament’s headline sports.

Meanwhile, Kawanda Secondary School has confirmed participation in netball and handball for both boys and girls, adding yet another layer of competitiveness, particularly in the netball category where several heavyweights will clash.

The host school, Janan Secondary School, will not simply play host but also field teams in football (boys), netball, volleyball and basketball — a move that could see them leverage home advantage in what is shaping up to be an unforgiving week of action.

With giants colliding across multiple disciplines, the 2026 USSSA Elite Games are widely expected to be one of the tightest editions yet.

Nearly every sport features at least two or three traditional powerhouses, setting the stage for high-intensity fixtures from the group stages through to the finals.

For fans and stakeholders of school sports in Uganda, this year’s tournament is more than just another competition — it is a rare convergence of elite talent, institutional pride and unfinished rivalries. In Bombo, only the very best will survive.
