Vipers SC Appoints Former FUFA CEO As Club’s Sporting Director

The 2019/20 Uganda premier League champions, Vipers Sports Club have announced Former FUFA Chief Executive Officer, Charles Masembe as their Sporting Director.
The Sporting Directors position was just introduced into the structure of the Club and the former international Referee is the man appointed to drive it as the club trying to strengthen it’s structures ahead of tough 2020/21 season.
“Vipers sports club is pleased to announce the appointment of Charles Masembe to the new role of Sporting Director.
Masembe has a wealth of experience in the Ugandan game, having played, coached, and officiated as a Fifa certified referee at an international level.” A post on Club’s official website reads in parts.
The former Federation of Uganda Football Associations (Fufa) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) will have to ensure he creates a favourable environment at the club for the players, coaches, management and oversee youth structures with the responsibility of organising workshops and training for all staff. the post continues to read.
The position of sporting director in most of Ugandans clubs are very few and it’s Big League club, Ndejje University Football club that has been with that position.
After his appointment, Masembe had this to comment.
It is an honour and privilege to join Vipers SC, an institution with big dreams. I have always admired to give my contribution to institutions with dreams and I have landed well in a place where I can also be helpful” He told the club website.
Lawrence Mulindwa, the Club’s patron who also worked with Masembe in FUFA, revealed that the former referee has a great experience that do meet Club’s dreams and targets.

What is the role of Sporting Director according to Vipers SC
- He will have to ensure he creates a favourable environment at the club for the players, coaches, management and oversee youth structures with the responsibility of organising workshops and training for all staff.
- His other major role will be as a link between the technical staff and board of Directors. He will be mandated to provide technical advice to the coaching staff, give guidance for the club vision and sporting strategy.
