FIFA Council Meets to Discuss Key Issues in Football: Call for Unity and Peace headlines business
The FIFA Council gathered at the Home of FIFA in Zurich on October 2, 2025, to address crucial topics in football governance and competitions.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino emphasized the importance of promoting peace and unity in football, especially amidst global tensions and conflicts.
He noted that football can bring people together and convey a powerful message of peace and unity.
Infantino stressed that while FIFA can’t solve geopolitical issues, it can promote football’s unifying values worldwide.
He encouraged meaningful dialogue among stakeholders to protect players and balance club and national team football.
“At FIFA, we are committed to using the power of football to bring people together in a divided world.”
“FIFA will continue to invite all stakeholders interested in a meaningful dialogue to protect players and improve football for the future.
“The new Standing Committees will lead to greater involvement of our Member Associations and increased female representation.”
At the meeting, the FIFA Council appointed members to newly created Standing Committees for 2025-2029, aiming to increase Member Association involvement, female representation, and technical expertise.
These committees will enhance FIFA’s decision-making processes and prepare the organization for future challenges.
The list of appointed members will be published on FIFA.com, and, as a next step, candidates from stakeholders will be subsequently submitted to the FIFA Council for approval.
“The new Standing Committees will lead to the greater involvement of our Member Associations, the confederations and other stakeholders in our decision-making processes, increased female representation and more focused technical expertise in various areas relevant to football,” said the FIFA President.
