Inside the 2025-2029 AUUS Elections election roadmap

As the clock ticks closer to the Association of Uganda University Sports (AUUS) Elective Assembly scheduled for September 26, 2025, at Uganda Christian University (UCU) in Mukono, the roadmap has been released amidst heating political atmosphere in the association.

This elective general assembly will usher in new leadership to replace Peninah Aligaweesa Kabenge’s reign, who has held the top position of the association for two decades.

The AUUS is set to hold elections for key positions, including Treasurer, student representatives, zonal representatives, and Deans of Students representatives.

The elections aim to ensure transparency, accountability, and institutional backing in the governance of university sports.

Nomination and Election Procedures
To ensure a smooth and fair election process, AUUS has established clear nomination rules. These include:

Nomination Letters: Candidates must submit official nomination letters signed by their Head of Department or a senior authority, addressed to the AUUS General Secretary.
Submission Deadline: Nomination letters must be submitted at least one week before election day.
Separate Elections: Separate elections will be conducted for each position to ensure fairness.
Eligibility Requirements: Institutions must meet strict eligibility requirements, including financial clearance and good standing.

The AUUS plays a vital role in promoting sports and nurturing talent across Ugandan universities.

The incoming executive will face the task of maintaining and strengthening AUUS’s role in the sports ecosystem, including enhancing funding partnerships and improving infrastructure.

Call to Action
AUUS General Secretary Patrick Ssebuliba emphasized the importance of institutional participation and accountability, stating,

“These elections are not just about leadership but about setting a strong foundation for the growth of university sports in Uganda.”

All institutions are encouraged to prepare their candidates in time and ensure compliance with the nomination guidelines.
