Badminton Uganda Kabojja International School inaugural championship sees glamorous conclusion
The inaugural Badminton Uganda Kabojja International Schools Badminton Championship came to a thrilling close at Kabojja International School in Buziga, Uganda.
The two-day tournament, held on September 13-14, 2025, brought together 128 talented learners from 14 esteemed schools, including Kabojja International School, Mengo SS, Greenvalley Primary School, and Gayaza Junior.
Abigail Mawanda Ndagire, daughter of Uganda Badminton Association President Annet Nakamya, dominated the tournament, clinching gold medals in all three categories she participated in.
Her impressive wins included the U-15 and U-19 Girls singles finals, as well as the Women’s Doubles, where she partnered with Swaburah Nayiga.
“I’m thrilled to have won three gold medals and fulfilled my expectations,” Abigail said.
“I’m grateful to my teammates and coach, and I look forward to future competitions, including the U15 City tyres and the WBF Championship”.
Kabojja International School’s Head of School, Sandy Bansal, expressed delight at the tournament’s success, highlighting the school’s commitment to investing in sports, particularly badminton.
“We aim to nurture great Olympians and promote badminton in Uganda,” Bansal said.
The championship featured four age categories – U10, U13, U15, and U19 – with events in mixed doubles, doubles, and singles for both girls and boys.
The tournament showcased the talents of young Ugandan athletes, with Abigail Ndagire’s performance serving as a shining example of excellence in badminton.
As the sport continues to grow in Uganda, events like the Kabojja International Schools Badminton Championship will play a vital role in identifying and nurturing talented young players.
