Uganda flags off Woodball team for World Cup and Thailand Open championships 

The Uganda National Council of Sports (NCS) has flagged off a delegation of woodball players to participate in the fourth edition of the Beach Woodball World Cup and the first Thailand Open International Beach Woodball Championship.

The flag-off ceremony was graced by NCS General Secretary Dr. Bernard Patrick Ogwel at Copper Chimney Restaurant in Lugogo.

The Beach Woodball World Cup will take place in Rayong, Thailand, at Laem Charoen Beach from September 7 to 13, 2025.

Concurrently, the Thailand Open International Beach Woodball Championship will be held from September 9 to 13, 2025.

The Ugandan team is led by Thomas Khedi and Christine Birungi, who will serve as the men’s and women’s team captains, respectively.

The men’s team includes: Thomas Khedi (Captain), Gilles Amanyire, Akram Matovu and George Guma.

Meanwhile, the women’s team is composed of Christine Birungi (Captain), Rhonah Namutebi, Anita Nakyazze and Jackline Naula.

The team is headed by Coach Onesimus Atamba, who will lead the charge in Thailand.

Uganda will field players in the following events: Fairway team event, Stroke team event and Stroke singles.

 

Uganda had a successful outing at the 2023 Beach Woodball World Cup in Malaysia, winning four medals.

In 2019, they won a silver medal but withdrew from the 2024 edition due to financial challenges.

The team has been camped in Bunjako Beach in Mpigi district and will depart for Thailand on Saturday.
