Buddo Secondary School flagged off to Algeria for inaugural African School Games

The Buddo Secondary School football team is gearing up to represent Uganda at the inaugural African School Games, scheduled to take place in Algeria from July 26th to August 5th, 2025.
The team, led by head coach Richard Malinga, a former Uganda Cranes international, has been training intensively in preparation for the games.
Official Flag-Off
The team was officially flagged off at the school premises on Sunday, July 20th, 2025, by the Director of Studies, Livingstone Ssenabulya.
In his remarks, Ssenabulya expressed pride in the team and urged them to make their school and country proud. “We are proud of you all,” he said, as he handed over the school and national flags to team captain Dickson Barasa.
“Go and fight gallantly, make your school and country proud. Let’s be united to the cause of winning silverware.”
Team’s Readiness
Team captain Barasa expressed confidence in the team’s preparation, stating that they have prepared well and are ready to play their hearts out.
“We have prepared well and ready to play our hearts out,” Barasa said.
“The players are physically and mentally ready for the task ahead of us.”
Strategy and Preparation
Head coach Malinga outlined the team’s strategy, hinting that they will employ a match-by-match approach, depending on the opposition faced.
“We have traveled early to get used to the weather and polish up the team,” Malinga revealed.
“We shall encounter match by match, depending on the opposition faced, and use the favorable tactics.”
Uganda’s Representation
Uganda will have representation in several sports at the African School Games, including Athletics, Swimming, Badminton, Table Tennis, Beach Volleyball, Lawn Tennis, and Basketball (3X3). The games are organized by the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) and will feature over 3,000 athletes from 44 African countries.
Uganda’s Delegation
Lydia Gloria Dhamuzungu, an Executive Committee member for the Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC), will lead Uganda’s delegation as the Chef De Mission.
The Buddo SS football team delegation includes 18 players, who are eager to make their mark in the tournament.
