The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has announced the coaching panel for the Uganda National Team that will participate in the CHAN 2024 tournament.

Fred Muhumuza and Morley Byekwaso have been appointed to lead the local-based Uganda Cranes squad in the tournament, which is scheduled to take place from August 2 to 30, 2025.

Coaching Duo’s Experience
The duo will work under the guidance of Uganda Cranes Head Coach Paul Put, who will oversee the team’s overall technical strategy and performance throughout the tournament.

Muhumuza and Byekwaso have previously collaborated on an interim basis for the Uganda Cranes during international friendlies in October 2023 against Mali and Zambia.

Byekwaso’s experience in leading the Uganda Hippos (U20 Men’s National Team) to silver medals at the 2021 AFCON U20 and the 2024 African Games will undoubtedly be an asset to the team.

Tournament Details
The CHAN 2024 tournament will be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania under the “Pamoja East Africa” arrangement.

The tournament is exclusive to players active in their domestic leagues and is scheduled to feature some of the best local talent from across the continent.

Next Steps
FUFA has stated that additional technical staff will be announced in due course, following the naming of the final squad.

With Muhumuza and Byekwaso at the helm, the Uganda Cranes are expected to make a strong impression in the tournament.

The team’s performance will be closely watched, and the coaching duo will be under pressure to deliver results.

The appointment of Muhumuza and Byekwaso marks an important step in the team’s preparation for the CHAN 2024 tournament.
