St. Noa settles for silver as Ghana and Tanzania claim CAF African Schools Football Championship titles
In a thrilling display of football, Ghana’s U-15 Girls team emerged victorious in the CAF African Schools Football Championship, defeating St. Noa Girls Secondary School-Zana (Uganda) 2-0 in the final.
The match was held at the University of Ghana on Saturday, April 26, in front of a lively home crowd.
St. Noa Girls had been on a remarkable run, boasting a 100% winning record and an impressive defensive display, having not conceded a single goal throughout the tournament.
Despite their valiant efforts, they were unable to withstand Ghana’s determination and prowess.
The victory marked a triumphant debut for Ghana, who lifted the continental title in impressive fashion to pocket a $300,000.
St. Noa Girls will receive sports infrastructure worth $200,000 as runners-up, in addition to their zonal qualifiers $100,000 prize.
In the boys’ category, Tanzania’s U-15 team claimed a back to back title and also setting up a successful title defense next year.
In the third-place playoff, Ghana defeated St. Mary’s Kitende (Uganda) 2-1, with Kitende taking an early lead through Henry Muhoozi.
The Uganda delegation, comprising both the girls’ and boys’ teams, is set to return home today, with their flight expected to land at Entebbe International Airport at 5:55 PM EAT.
