The Uganda Boxing Federation (UBF) has taken a significant step towards professionalizing the sport by appointing Mrs. Maureen Mulangira as the Chairperson of the UBF Licensing Commission.

This commission is to play a vital role in regulating professional boxing in Uganda, ensuring compliance with the National Sports Act 2023.

Mulangira’s appointment is a testament to her impressive history in boxing.

She is the first woman to be elected as General Secretary of Africa’s professional boxing governing body and the second Ugandan to hold this position.

Her experience as a pioneer in Uganda’s national women’s boxing team and former manager of kickboxer Moses Golola makes her an ideal candidate for the role.

The UBF Licensing Commission comprises five members, including Mulangira as Chairperson, Babu Hussein as Vice Chairperson, Abdu Tebazalwa and Buule Nicholas as members, and Phillip Munabi as Secretary.

According to UBF President Moses Muhangi, Mulangira’s leadership will bring greater professionalism, structure, and accountability to Uganda’s boxing scene.

With the new leadership in place, the UBF aims to strengthen professional boxing regulation, ensure compliance with the National Sports Act 2023, and provide opportunities for young boxers to transition into professional careers.

Mulangira’s expertise is expected to propel Ugandan boxing to greater heights, both locally and internationally.

The commission’s mandate is executed in accordance with Article 11.4.1(c) of the UBF constitution, as stated in a document dated February 13, 2025.
