Tumultuous days continue at Express FC as assistant coach Richard Malinga joins departures

Express FC has parted ways with assistant coach Richard Malinga, according to reliable sources.

Malinga, a former right back for Entebbe Health and KCCA FC, had been serving as Jimmy Kintu Mwera’s deputy since November 2025.

His departure comes at a tumultuous time for the Red Eagles, who have lost key players including Richard Basangwa and Hakim Wandera to NEC FC, with Mohammed Ssenoga Kaggwa also set to leave.

The exodus of talent has raised concerns about Express FC’s prospects, with Malinga’s exit adding to the woes.

A seasoned coach with a pedigree in Ugandan football, Malinga has previously led Mbale Heroes, KCCA Junior team, and Mawokota Ssaza team, and guided Buddo SS to the USSSA boys football title last year.

He previously guided Amus College School to their first ever FEASSA boys football title in 2024.

Express FC’s immediate future looks uncertain, with a crucial match against arch-rivals SC Villa looming on Thursday at Hamza Stadium in Nakivubo.

The Red Eagles’ struggles are set to continue, with Malinga’s departure exacerbating the team’s challenges down the stretch.
