Elite Games: Sylvia Kabene scores nine, St. Noa, Kawempe are a step to semi-finals

The sixth edition of the Elite Games kicked off with a bang as eight thrilling matches unfolded on the first day of the girls’ football tournament.

Reigning 2024 FEASSA champions St. Noa Girls Secondary School-Zana and National champions Kawempe Muslim Secondary School stole the spotlight, securing victories in both their matches to inch closer to securing semi-final berths.

St. Noa’s impressive campaign began with a resounding 8-0 triumph over Sheema Girls High School, with Sylvia Kabeene netting an astonishing six goals.

Kabeene’s phenomenal form continued in their second match, as she scored a hat-trick to inspire St. Noa’s remarkable comeback from a 2-0 deficit against Boni Consilii, ultimately emerging victorious with a 3-2 scoreline.

Meanwhile, Kawempe Muslim demonstrated their prowess with a 1-0 win over Uganda Martyrs Lubaga, courtesy of Monica Nannono’s second-half strike.

In their second match, Kawempe Muslim secured a convincing 3-0 victory over Bukedea Comprehensive School, with Shadia Nabirye, Dorcus Kisakye, and Kevin Nanyunja finding the back of the net.

In other matches, 2024 Elite Games runners-up Boni Consilii edged Amus College 2-1 in a closely contested encounter before succumbing to a 3-2 defeat against St. Noa Girls Secondary School-Zana.

Uganda Martyrs High School Lubaga bounced back from their opening loss to Kawempe, defeating Sacred Heart SS Gulu 5-1, with Shivon Atuhaire and Rebecca Nantume scoring a brace each.

The semifinals are slated to take place tomorrow evening, following the conclusion of the group stages in the morning.
