The 2026 Wakiso District/Zone Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) National Ball Games I qualifiers have officially commenced today, ushering in a vibrant display of school sports excellence.
Hosted at Buddo Secondary School in the Nsangi zone, this year’s championship has attracted an impressive 1,066 student-athletes drawn from 85 teams in Wakiso District, underscoring the growing depth and competitiveness of school sports in the region.
The tournament will run through a structured schedule, with all disciplines—except Basketball 5X5—set to complete both preliminary rounds and finals at Buddo Secondary School, climaxing on Friday, 20th March.
Basketball 5X5, however, will follow an extended timeline. The competition will proceed up to the quarter-final stage during the initial phase, with the semi-finals and finals slated for 14th April.
These decisive fixtures will be staged alongside the boys’ football final, culminating in a grand awards ceremony at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium in Wakiso.
This year’s edition features a diverse range of sporting disciplines categorized under two age groups.
The U20 category includes Basketball 5X5, hockey, rugby 15s, table tennis, lawn tennis, and badminton.
Meanwhile, the U17 category will see competition in Basketball 3X3, volleyball, and handball.
With a significant turnout and a well-structured program, the championship promises high-level competition, talent discovery, and a celebration of youthful sporting prowess across Wakiso District.
